Would somebody kindly refresh my static memory - after I do "search" what is the trick to actually open the item selected?
( it has been answered / discussed before , but if I cannot get to it....)
(... I cannot take a screen shot to show here ...)

" right click with raised left foot ??"

Nothing seems to work and "search" gets closed.

The popup is buggy, yes. Use the big boy's search feature:

      @kshegunov
...Are we still awaiting a fix on this...?? :)

From https://forum.qt.io/topic/114361/forum-s-search-not-working-right/5 I thought @JKSH said it had been fixed, but @AndyS said it had not been deployed?

I now have the vaguest recollection (a different thread?) that you have to double-click the item at lightning speed and then it works??

      EDIT
I just tried, at least under Chrome/Windoze. It seems to work better than it used to, with a normal click. Sometimes. Other times not. In which case, try again (may work second time), or click fast (seems to help).

I have no idea if this has been fixed or not, I'm a lowly mod - my job as such is to move stuff around and ban spammers. I was writing based on my last interaction with said popup, which did appear to be buggyish. Whether @AndyS has deployed a newer version of nodeBB I don't know, but at least from my user-side interaction with it I haven't noticed a difference.

@kshegunov AFAIK, NodeBB has not been updated yet.

What has been working for me (Safari) is right click+open in the new tab.
But I just use the search page, less stress than that not-quite-working search box.

            For more information please re-read.

            Kind Regards,
            Artur

It has been fixed upstream in NodeBB v1.17. We haven't been updated to that version yet -- @ollipuu knows better than I when it will happen: https://forum.qt.io/topic/125904/forum-database-upgrade-apr-21

In my small corner of hell, we call this: "Complain to the Armenian priest". :)

I could be mistaken, but I don't expect getting a search to work right should call for divine intervention....

Nothing divine in that expression. It basically means that you can complain as much as you want, but that's not going to lead to anything.[1]
Similar meaning as "talk to the hand", "cry me a river", etc.
