But you pointed me in the right direction. I realized everything works correctly when the built files are executed outside of Qt Creator. (I should have tried this from the start.) I found the option "Add build library search path to LD_LIBRARY_PATH" in Qt Creator's run settings for the configuration. I just re-install the NDK and it works fine now... Sometimes it's strange...

AFAIC Qt Creator assumes that examples are self contained. These are a bit of a special case
