Unsufficent (framework) support for the plex app (on apple silicon)
-
I would like to have a comment of the Qt Group on a statement reagarding migrating the plex player (https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/#plex-app) to apple silicon plattform. We, the customers of plex plattform are waiting since one year for the migration to the apple silicon plattform but due to "non communication" and bugs in the framework is this not possible. A stament from a plex staffer is, quote:
"If you demand to talk to the Qt Group, you can start with their website: https://www.qt.io/ . Good luck with that though; they ignore us even when we are trying to give them money. As frustrated as you are with this, we are far more frustrated. We’ve been dealing with a mess from them for far longer than you. "
So therfore, dear Qt Group, can you please communicate with plex and iron out the bugs for migrating the app as decribed in the following thread: https://forums.plex.tv/t/apple-silicon-support-for-plex-player-at-least/781519/65 ?
Thanks for your support !

@trigger2k23 This is Qt user's forum. Not a good way to contact Qt Company. If plex people have a commercial license they should contact Qt Company support. Also Qt is open source library, so if they can't get Qt Company to do what they want they can do it themselves.
In any case it's a matter between two companies. Not much members of this forum can do about it.

AFAICS the latest comment was made by, apparently, a Qt Employee (of course, it's hard to verify).
Also, in my opinion, it's a thing between Plex and the Qt Company.I fully understand, that you, as users are frustrated, but Plex should reach out to Qt (if they haven't already), not angry users of Plex :)
This is also a user forum and I doubt, that you get any official statement regarding Plex, their license and this bug-fix, or whatever the problem is, here on this forum.Let's say you buy a new car and this car has some issues dealing with third-party "extras". Would you reach out to the manufacturer of some electronics used in there, because your navigation system is not working properly?

@Pl45m4 @Chris-Kawa
Thanks, i did not know and realize that this forum is not an official forum for Qt Company. It look, smells and tasted like the Qt group but thats ok. Maybe the Qt group should write that also on their Homepage...@Chris-Kawa i'm with you this is now a matter between those 2 companies.
Thanks for the support ! I will close this thread.

This is the official Qt Forum. If you look at the domain (forum.QT.io)...
But, only a few Qt employees hang out here (some CMs or Devs) and not 24/7 since, like @Chris-Kawa said, it's mostly driven by volunteers, who help each other.
And it's definitely not the best place or fastest way for business inquiries or to contact Qt officials / devs in general. -
@trigger2k23 The forum is hosted by Qt Company for the users. Notice that it is linked in the "Learn Qt" section, not "Support & Services". It's a volunteer based arrangement for people that want to help each other and exchange knowledge. It's not a formal technical inquiries or support channel of the company. For that see the contact page below those links you posted, but, like I said ,that's rather a thing for those two companies.
You, as a user of plex, shouldn't have to fight their wars for them. If they want to keep you as a customer they should find a way to make it work, either through working with Qt Company (because they are their customer, not you) or doing whatever needs to be done themselves.

I fully agree with you. Sadly it seems Plex, as you can probably tell from the forum replies from their employees, was much less cooperative than we thought they would be so we tried to "help them out" thinking Qt maybe lost the email flow.
It seems to be a legitimate Qt employee as the 2nd Plex Employee seems to be sharing confidential screenshots with him so it seems we got the ball rolling. If anything maybe lit a small fire under Plex's bum. (I'm the one who contacted Qt by email.)
Thank you for your time, it seems that Plex decided to mostly ignore Qt's response and somewhat attempt to gaslight the situation with the "Plex Corporate" side of things and lock the thread. This situation is eye-opening and I'm spreading the word and will probably be moving my business to my money to Emby.
I wish you a good day.
