During an answer to a post I had a funny experience with a reference to one of our fellows.

When you like to reference one of the other users you can start typing with the '@' sign and you will get a pull-down list with suggestions.

My guess is that it doesn ot like special characters such as '-' and possibly others.
I tried to reference @J.Hilk but when hitting the proper entry in the pull-down list the user's name was changed to @J-Hilk
When placing the cursor now after the hyphen the user's name with dot does not show up anymore.

Possibly this is triggered by some keybord drivers or whatever and may not be a general problem.
I am on windows 10 64 bit with a Swiss keyboard and a Swiss-German keyboard driver.

@mrjj same on my smartphone, so probably not driver dependend?

@koahnig underscore is a valid identifier letter in programming languages, while dots and hyphens are not.

            could that be the reason?

Could be depending on the origin of the problem. Just checked because it is a character outside of the traditional letters and digits and its keyboard location is also variable.

NodeBB escapes some symbols (like spaces and dots). However notifications and such should work okay, so as far as I know it's only a cosmetic issue.

@J-Hilk could change his name by deed poll if it's causing us problems ;-)

                    Well
I don‘t think it matters much, I did get a notification for both ways of spelling 🤔

It is for sure not important enough for a bug report. And I wouldn't ask anyone to change the user name because of this.
