Sluggish performance in debug or release build, but Fast when run in QML Profiler

I'm running a QML application that creates a lot of dynamic components. When I start it up in a debug or release build it is very sluggish and responds very slowly, but when I run it in the QML Profiler to try and see what's happening it runs very fast and snappy! What would be causing this and what can I do to get this snappy behavior in my normal builds?
QTCreator 3.6.1, QT 5.5.1
