QtCreator doens't stop process

QtCreator 3.6.1, Qt5.6 cross-compiled for RPi3 using Linaro.
I can successfully deploy and remotely debug my applications. But when I hit the "stop" button the process is still running on the target.

I need to manually kill the process to allow a new deployment.

What could cause this weird behavior?
