QTranslator (Windows): loading qt_xx.qm doesn't work, qtbase_xx.qm does

I'm working with Qt 5.4.1 under Windows and am trying to load the basic Qt translations in my app, which is not working correctly.
While loading "qtbase_de.qm" (i.e.) is working fine (QDialog button text is translated as expected), "qt_de.qm" cannot be loaded and QTranslator.load() returns false and I get no translation at all.
I didn't find any bug report regarding this problem, but perhaps someone else has had the same issue and found a solution (besides loading the qt*_xx.qm files one after another) ...
