May be we can expect an update in January. E7 is also expected to be out, so we can expect one update by then.

In January 2011 the next firmware is going to be arrived.

        Review of N8.
I like the UI and widget style in the Symbian^3.
N8 is good , It is very slow, as we compare it with the other high end mobiles.

Yes true, Symbian^3 is a very good Mobile OS indeed, but it needs to be polished more.

As for the speed it's not a fault of the N8, I think rather it's on the OS, for this reason I am waiting for the update that will arrive on January.

On Nokia Developer Summit I have received an N8, which was a clear improvement compared to the earlier devices but it is still not there. I have used it for several weeks then I have returned to my N900 (there were several small issues like mail for exchange was not able to handle meeting requests).

Same situation here. I have received a Nokia N8 on Qt Developer Days 2010 on Munich, until then I was using a Nexus One, which is a perfect device and I am using N8 since by avoiding my Nexus One Android phone.

Reason why I am using N8 is that I am a Qt developer and I write my programs and I want to use them on everyday basis, also here on the N8 I have 16gb internal memory and 12 megapixel camera.

Indeed it is an improvement comparing to Nokia 5800 but still lacking on some basic functionality (especially on those written in the above post).

But seeing the issues on the OS level, I always have hopes that they will be improved on the next update iteration.

In recent news and announcements they made several promises and I really hope they will keep them. In this case Symbian can become again a good platform with real maintenance and care from Nokia.

On what I am happy about that Nokia is taking the R&D of Symbian and let the Symbian Foundation only take care about legal and licensing part, for this reason I am really hoping for the change because Symbian is built for mobile phones, they didn't bring the desktop operating system to mobile as Apple did.

Also in recent rumors I've heard about that Nokia and Microsoft are in discussion about WP7 phones but I don't see that it will happen, maybe the agreement is about the office suite on Nokia platforms but not the entire operating system.

Yes, as I remember we had similar opinions about that Symbian is for phones and Meego will be for tablets. In this portfolio I do not see place for WP7.

True. But Microsoft fanatics are bugging me with these rumors, I hope they will soon end.

What Nokia is trying to achieve with MeeGo is just what Google is doing with Android, bringing Android to TV's too. This was the motivation why MeeGo started in the first place but I think they were a bit late :(

I am really excited to see what happens in this war and I know there are lots of Qt developers out there so Nokia has its army behind them ;)
