Problems with building qt from source (it doesn't generate lib files)

Hey, I am trying to build qt from source because I have run into a problem with strings (converting from and to Qstring), and the solution I found online was to build it yourself, so it builds with the same STL environment. I build qt, and then Visual Studio, the linker specifically, complains about missing files. It stops after the first file, so if I copy this file from the official build, it says the same thing but about a different file. D:\Libraries\Qt\6.6.0\Build\plugins\styles\qwindowsvistastyle.lib
here is the command I use
configure.bat -release -prefix "D:\Libraries\Qt\6.6.0\Build" & cmake --build . --parallel & cmake --install .

Please check that there are no build errors. In particular, consider using &&in your command line to stop the build when an error occurs. Finally, it's best practice to not 'pollute' the source directory, as that can sometimes lead to surpising behavior:

I didn't realize that using the configure command inside the source directory actually builds in the same directory. It seems to work now after downloading src and rebuilding. although the build command did fail because of QtWebEngine. So I will rebuild it without tomorrow. Thank you very much for the support

@kkoehne Never mind, I finished a full install and still have the same error. I did change the command because I was getting issues other wise. here is the modified command I used:

mkdir build && cd build
..\configure.bat -release -prefix "D:\Libraries\Qt\6.6.0\Build" -skip webengine -nomake tests -nomake examples && cmake --build . --parallel && cmake --install .

Hang on, why do you expect a .lib file for a plugin, that is supposed not to be linked to (it is loaded at runtime)? There should be a .dll, but not a .lib file.

Do you (try to) explicitly link against the plugin nevertheless, in your project file? Or do you somehow try a static build (which would require Qt to be built statically, too)?
