Qt creator and qt designer do not properly start on Windows 10

Installed the following using qt-unified-windows-x86-4.2.0-online.exe:
- Qr Creator 6.0.1
- Qt Design Studio 2-3-1-community
on Windows 10 Pro Build 19042.1415 and they silently do not start (well, they pop up for <1s in task manager).
Is this something known? What can I do/check to mitigate the problem? How could I diagnose what's happening?
