    @Nhan-Nguyen

Awesome. The upvote user list works. Thanks :)

    upvote.png

However, seeing user profiles still requires users to have specific roles

You mean the profile "popup" as I've mentioned here?

@Pl45m4 said in Forum Updated to NodeBB 3.7.4:

Another thing: the old forum displayed a small profile "popup", showing number of posts, the reputation and the profile info, when you clicked on a person's profile picture in a post.
Now you instantly "visit" the profile page this way, making you leave the topic where you are currently in. So you have to go all the way back.

I would rate this less important than seeing the upvote count (the actual upvoters) or an improved topic navigation, but the longer you use the new frontend, the more you'll notice things or habits that no longer work compared to the former version.

So it works, but again not for all forum user roles?!
Would be good to have it working for all authorized forum users, but it's not such a big deal now.
Happy to have the upvoters list back.

    Thanks again :)

I tested myself and this is the desired behavior.

Ah no, basically, I meant the login is required to view others' profiles page (In detail).

Overall, It's great to get the verification that the oldie is back :D

IIRC guests were never able to visit user profiles and I think it's good like that.

The old forum version had some profile popup, where only a slightly enlarged version of the pic, the amount of posts and the overall reputation of this user were shown, when clicking a profile pic next to a post (no matter if logged in or not).
Currently you visit the profile instantly when clicking someones profile pic.
This is what I've noticed in my comment here.

@Pl45m4 I have found a different forum that uses the old version of NodeBB and found the "popup profile" that you mentioned (the attachment below)

Yup exactly this. Some sort of preview. Then, when you click the name in popup again, you get to the full profile page.
Don't know for sure if it was available for guests, but we had this for authorized users before.
I'm not "missing" this, I just found out that it's not there anymore :)

            @Pl45m4

I've just dived into the source code and found that the "popup/preview" profile feature is only available in the old Persona NodeBB theme. The new Qt design is based on the NodeBB Harmony theme.
Since the profile popup does not bring a lot of value and you're not "missing" it, let it RIP then :D.

... as others haven't even noticed or also not missing it at all...
Nice-to-have, but doesn't add that much value ;-)

Well in fact no, you're not alone missing that popup (I thought I wrote about it as well). It broke my workflow when answering to someone I think is new.

ok, but at least for me, as I wrote above, it's not such a big deal compared to not being able to see the upvotes :)
Because it seemed that nobody but me noticed it and hardly anyone used this "feature" anyway, I thought I'd mention it in my post on the new NodeBB update.

It broke my workflow when answering to someone I think is new.

Yes, it was nice for quickly checking someones "stats" without leaving the current discussion.

... and from testing on that old style forum page linked by @Nhan-Nguyen you can see that even guests can access the preview popup to check who they are dealing with. As in both NodeBB versions guests can't visit the profiles... so no access to reputation or number of posts when you are here "just reading".

Maybe there is a way to implement it or something similar again :)
Or it comes with a new update to NodeBB's Harmony Style?!

Technically, this feature can be copied from the NodeBB Persona theme, just a matter of time and priority. I'm currently full-booked with other stuff so I'll create a ticket and it can be implemented later on.

Thought so. Now I know the official name for this. Firefox "Inspect Element" ftw :D
                      It's called "Usercard".
Actually I don't now why they (the NodeBB maintainers / design devs) didn't port features like this to the new Harmony design?!
If the usercard "persona style" doesn't match anymore, it's easily adaptable to the new design, I think...

I assume they decided to make the bold move and drop some features that are evaluated as "old" and "less useful". Just my plain simple guess :D

Probably so. I've experienced the NodeBB template system and have a good impression of it. I foresee a bit of effort in finding the JavaScript logic to handle the opening/closing the mentioned "user card".

Now the question is: how to you handle that from a mobile point of view ?

Works even on Android using the Qt Webapp... just press and hold

@Pl45m4 It seems that with iOS I have to long press and then cancel the preview that starts in order to see the card 😅

When I hold for too long I also get the context menu ;D
(equal to right mouse click in Desktop env.)

                                      It's tricky but it works
